Dressing for Valentine’s day can be a little tricky. It’s definitely not an occasion when your standard little black dress will suffice. Here are some ensembles that will not let you down on the 14th.

Hervé Leger is great for any occasion when you want to turn heads. I love this design because the sleeves add a touch of modesty, making it more appropriate for dinner.

These Prada pumps will add some height to your look, and the creamy tan suede blends in with your leg color, elongating your legs and making you look long and lean.

Yves Saint Laurent makes some gorgeous clutches, and I think this one would work perfectly with the Hervé dress.

I love Donna Karan’s use of draping, and the soft, silvery color is so pretty.

I’ve written about these Valentino mary-janes before, and I think they would go perfectly with the Donna Karan dress. Or, you know, anything in my wardrobe.

Nancy Gonzalez makes a lot of cute clutches in a wide variety of colors. I thought this silvery-white crocodile would look amazing with the Valentino shoes.

If your plans for Valentine’s include a black tie invitation, then this metallic Donna Karan is for you.

These crystallized Jimmy Choos compliment the gown perfectly.

And this Judith Leiber clutch matches both the shoes and the gown perfectly.

I love this Alexander Wang dress, and the satiny silver fabric is gorgeous.

Fendi’s tri-color nude pumps are a great compliment to this dress, and I think it’ll become a staple in your wardrobe for years to come.

Alexander Wang also makes this gorgeous clutch, which has more compartments than you’ll know what to do with.

My boyfriend actually spotted this Diane Von Furstenberg dress at Neiman Marcus and thought it was great, so you know it’d be a great date-night dress. Straight guy seal of approval.

YSL Tribtoo pumps are the only closed-toe shoes I can wear, the extra room in the toe box makes them really comfortable.

For the clutch on this outfit, I decided not to over-think it, and I went with the matching YSL Belle du Jour clutch. It’s kind of a no-brainer.

Another Hervé Leger dress, but this one is a little more risqué. It’s definitely a show-stopper, but be prepared: you and your hubby might not be able to make it through dinner if you wear that!

I picked these exact Prada pumps in tan for another outfit, but I thought the pink would compliment this dress perfectly.

This candy-colored Proenza Schouler PS1 pouchette is absolutely perfect for this ensemble.

The construction of this Zac Posen dress is absolutely amazing, and the purple color will stand out against the sea of red and pink decorations, without clashing.

These Casadei pumps are so ladylike and polished, they compliment the dress without drawing attention away from it.

It was really hard to pair a bag with the dress and the shoes, but this Tammy bag by Valextra fits the bill nicely.

Well there you have seven surefire outfits to make this Valentine’s Day special.  As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to leave them in the comments, and I’ll answer them.
