I have heard a lot of people complaining the past few weeks that their office is doing a secret santa gift exchange this year, and they have no idea what to buy their coworker. So here are a bevy of ideas for gifts in the $5-20 range.  A lot of these will also make great stocking stuffers.

1. Gift Cards

Gift cards are easy to pick up pretty much anywhere and you can get them in almost any denomination.  Also, you can go to Costco and get a discount on multiple cards and give them to different people.  Here are a few safe bets:

Super easy and obvious, but almost everyone likes free coffee. If you know they aren’t big coffee drinkers, you can pick a restaurant near your office that does a good lunch or happy hour.

Another obvious, easy one. People like music, almost everyone uses iTunes.

Who doesn’t like movies? Especially when your ticket is free! A lot of the best movies come out at Christmastime, too, so chances are there will be something they want to see.

2. Booze

Please note, this idea only works if the person you are buying for is not a recovering alcoholic.  It’s always a good idea to have your office manager send out a memo to find out who in the office can’t drink, or has food allergies, etc.

Liquor stores sell gift sets with shot glasses, tumblers, cocktail shakers, etc. However, if those are a little out of your price range, there are some other options…

Mini bottles of booze are great because they’re inexpensive, easy to transport, and the perfect size for a little after-work drink. Grab a few different kinds that would work together in a cocktail, and a little bottle of whatever mixers are required.

Another great little gift to go with your recipient’s burgeoning minibar. Also, for a nicer gift exchange, it can double as a gift basket and hold the mini liquor bottles.

3.  Toiletries

These are mostly for women, but some can work for either gender.  Smaller, travel-size things that can fit in their desks are best.  Sephora sells a lot of cool, trial-size products by their registers.  Here are a few that I found:

Who couldn’t use some nice hand cream to get through the dry winter season?

I hate getting a hangnail at work! Glass nail files are the best, but Sephora also sells travel packs of regular files, too.

Dry shampoo is amazing for those days when your hair gets a little too greasy, and this little bottle can be kept in your desk for emergencies.

This “Minimergency” kit has everything a girl on the go might need: blistex, floss, mints, nail polish remover, clear nail polish, hair spray, hair elastics, band aid, stain remover, band-aids, and more. Great for the desk drawer or the glove compartment, they also make them for men!

I hope these gift suggestions help, if you have any more helpful ideas, please leave a comment!
