It all started with Christian Louboutin, who famously paints the soles of his iconic shoes red. This season, it seems like everyone is starting to get in on the fun, and heels with imaginative details on the soles are popping up all over. A couple of lines have gone with eye-catching glitter, like these from Rene Caovilla:

Or these from Lanvin:

And I must say, I love the use of the python embossing all over this pump by Casadei, which is also available in a bright orange:

But the rising star of this season seems to be Brian Atwood. His more affordable label, B Brian Atwood, has several different interpretations of the trend, and each is more fun than the last.

I have posted these boots before, but I keep coming back to them. I love the python print on the sole, it is subtle, yet chic, and absolutely unique right now:

He is also doing several different colors and styles that have crystallized soles (though obviously not on the part that actually hits the ground!)

And finally, I love these pumps with the studded soles, it’s unexpected, tough, and subtle all at once:

I think that this trend is just starting to catch on, and will be really taking off in subsequent seasons, so buy a pair now, and you’ll be able to wear them for years. Plus you’ll get to look like you started the trend, and isn’t that really what it’s all about?
