Some of you may have already heard about the magnetic nail polish made by Nails Inc. For those of you that haven’t, brace yourselves for a new obsession. The polishes have been formulated with iron powder in them so that when you hold the magnet in the cap over your wet nail, a pattern emerges and dries that way. It is nail art that is quick, easy, and very impressive. The iron in the polish works in such a way as to create an almost holographic effect, which moves as you move your nails. The polishes come in a variety of colors, so you can pick your favorites and mix and match the magnets between them. So far the company had three different patterns:

This wave pattern is the first that they came out with. definitely the easiest magnet to work with, I would recommend starting with this pattern in order to get the hang of it before moving on to the others.

This fishnet pattern is a little trickier, but not impossible. It requires a steady hand and some patience, you have to slowly pivot the cap to hover over every part of your nail. Don’t be afraid to add another coat and try again.

This star shape is their latest pattern, and the blue is their newest color. I haven’t gotten a chance to try this one out yet, but I imagine it requires a steady hand to hold the magnet very still over the nail.

I have found that the main trick with these is to do one coat on all of your nails and then go back and do a second, thicker coat one by one, holding the magnet over each nail as you go. It’s fun experimenting with holding the magnet in different ways to try to get different images. The polishes are $18 each, and are available at Sephora.
